課程目標

By the end of this course, the students will be able to:
1. Represent the molecules as bond-line, condensed and skeletal structures.
2. Describe the hybridization and the degree of substitutions of the carbon atoms in molecules.
3. Draw resonance structures to explain charge stabilization.
4. Rationalize the difference in acidity between molecules.
5. Use pKa values to predict acid-base reactions.
6. Describe acid-base reactions using Bronsted-Lowry and Lewis definition.
7. Use curly arrows to show the movement of electrons during acid-base reactions.

課程內容

This course covers the introductory parts of Organic Chemistry:
The first topic covers key concepts about structure and bonding specific to organic molecules. The second topic will include concepts about acids and bases, pKa and curly arrow convention.

限修條件

1. 大一入學新生
2. 須具備化學鍵基礎知識，建議先完成「化學鍵導論」，再修此課程

Students are advised to use one of the following textbooks:
-Organic Chemistry by McMurry, 9th or 10th edition
-Organic Chemistry by L. G. Wade and J. W. Simek, 9th ed.
