課程目標

The Creative Leadership in the Performing arts course will be taught in English and will focus on the process of leading nonprofit performing arts organizations. We will cover the following topics: the professional leader’s career path and professional growth; the leader’s vision; leadership styles and interpersonal skills; strategies for setting and executing organizational priorities; leadership decision-making and communication processes; strategies for creating change and innovation; and the challenges faced in leading an institution. Students will learn from lectures and will practice what they learn in group work leadership role playing case studies and presentation exercises.

課程內容

March 7, 13:10-16:00: Introduction to the Course and Professional Arts Manager Workshop. We will create student PowerPoint presentations for the two additional classes: Performing Arts Market Trends in the Post-COVID Era (March 19, 16:20-17:30) and Cultural Sustainability: Legal and Ethical Considerations (March 20, 10:10am-12noon) **.

March 14, 13:10-16:00: Lecture: Leadership vs. Management
In Class Assignments: Group Work and PowerPoint Presentations (Leadership v. Management)

March 19, 16:20-17:30, Performing Arts Market Trends in the Post-COVID Era lecture and student participation

March 20, 10:10am-12noon, Cultural Sustainability: Legal and Ethical Considerations lecture and student participation

March 21, 13:10-16:00: Lecture: Learning to Lead

限修條件

Standards of Professionalism
In order to pass this class, you must attend all four Friday and two additional classes (March 19 and 20). You must be on time for every class and individually participate in each class. If you are sick, do not come to class. Please email me stein.tobie@gmail.com to be excused from class if you are sick. No other excuses for absences and lateness will be accepted.

You are not allowed to use ChatGPT for any assignment in this class. If I find that you are using it, you will not pass the class.

Grades
Your grade will be calculated in the following manner:
Attendance: 40%
Individual Participation (during lectures and as a member of the team): 20%
Group work and team-member presentation: 40%

Team In-Class Assignments
We will break up into teams for each class assignment. Each of your in-class team assignments/presentations will be based on a Taiwanese nonprofit performing arts organization, which you will choose You may choose one of your internship organizations. When you present as a team, each team member is expected to contribute to the project and to present in class.
